Film, Crime, and State Legitimacy: Political Education or Mis-Education?

This essay is about the place of filmed crime stories in contemporary political education or miseducation. The paper examines in particular the place of such stories in expressing or influencing emotionally toned attitudes about crime and the legitimacy of the state. Thus the paper is about one aspect of the education of the emotions through certain film narratives.
